People commonly think that more money, with its corresponding increase in possessions, can bring more happiness.

A study made by an economist, Richard Easterlin, from the University of Southern California tried to verify this line of thinking. He conducted a survey of 1500 people who were asked repeatedly over a 28-year period. While he found out that healthy people were happier than unhealthy ones and married people were happier than singles, he also found out that increased in material possessions and wealth were only good for temporarily improving happiness.
