The wedding is finally done! Here are the things you can do with your wedding bouquet, photos, and even your wedding cake:
Preserving your wedding memories. It’s not practical nowadays to have all your wedding photos framed. So couples resort to making scrapbooks instead and then getting them framed. Others just put the photos in albums. However, these albums need to be preserved. Here are some tips on how you can preserve you wedding photos:
- Use albums that are acid free and of archival quality.
- Buy envelopes and storage boxes of good archival quality.
- Mount your wedding photos to pages that are acid-free. Use tape and photo corners that are acid-free.
- Avoid storing photographs in attics and basements where the temperature and humidity are high.
- It is also advisable to scan your pictures and burn them on a CD to serve as a convenient and permanent archive.
- Do not store your videos, CDs, and photos from direct sunlight.
- Remove the clip found at the back of the videotape so as to prevent you from taping over it by mistake.
- Hide your photo negatives and duplicate videotape in a fireproof box.
- Make sure you store your videotapes upright in a case. Keep them away from all electronic equipment.
Preserving your bouquets. You can make your special wedding bouquet last longer by drying the flowers and converting them into potpourri. You can also press them in the pages of a heavy book.
What to do with the left-over cake. The left-over cake can still be eaten after a few weeks. To make sure that the cake is still good after a while, turn it upside down before storage and put small holes with the aid of a clean skewer. Pour a little brandy into the holes to keep the cake moist and to help in the preservation until it is unwrapped for consumption.
After baking the cake, leave it to cool thoroughly before wrapping again in greaseproof paper or baking parchment. Wrap this using a wide aluminum foil and store in an airtight container. A perfect option would be a polypropylene food storage box. You can also use an airtight polythene bag. Store the cake in a dark, cool place, away from animals and insects. Preferably, do not store for more than two months.
